December Sir Henry Pottinger re-assumed the Government of Hong Kong, and on 4th January 1843 his Private Secretary informed our Webster that the transfer of Captain Meik's grant to him would not be recognized "as Captain Meik obtained permission to build on that ground on terms in which he totally failed".
